Level 1 - Opal Berkey Levine |
|
Opal Berkey Levine was born in 1914. Opal was one of the founding owners of Hubbard Chevrolet in Hubbard Oregon. She grew up in the Woodburn/Hubbard area and was the mother of 4 wonderful children and 12 grandchildren. She loved to sing, travel and loved her morning tea. Opal was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1998 and she passed away March, 2008. Opal was the grandmother of Erik Berkey, the founder and Board President of Thelma's Place. |

Level 2 - Thelma Brear |
|
| Thelma Brear was the inspiration for Thelma's Place. She was known for her wonderful smile and beautiful gardens. She left an impression on everyone she met. She was born in 1908 in Mill City, Oregon. Thelma was an accomplished pianist and vocalist. She was also a business major. In 1994,Thelma was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and in June of 2004 after a wonderful 96th birthday party with her 2 children and five generations of family surrounding her, she passed away. | |

Level 3 - Aletha Mead |
|
| Aletha Mead was born in 1907 and grew up in the Mid West. She was an outstanding athlete playing basketball and swimming. She moved to the Northwest in the 1920's. She was the first flight attendant for United Airlines and was also a very active philanthropist. She married George Wells Meade in the 1940's. They had 2 children, George Jr and Patricia, and 3 lovely grandchildren. Aletha was diagnosed with senile dementia in 1992 and finally succumbed to the disease in 1998. | |

Level 4 - Etta Hershberger |
|
| Etta Hershberger was born in 1911 in Hubbard. On March 29, 1937 she married John Melvin Hershberger. They owned and operated Hershberger Motors for many years. She was a lifelong member of Zion Mennonite Church. She had 3 sons, 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and canning and being a homemaker. | |

Level 5 - Denny Oliver Wells |
|
| Denny Oliver Wells was born in 1922 in Forman North Dakota. He was the third of 6 children. He joined the US Army in 1940 and was honorably discharged in 1943. He married Eula Bease and they lived in North Portland where he owned and operated a painting business at the shipyards. He was a long time member of the Washington Country Sheriffs Posse. He and his wife had 2 girls, 4 grandchildren and 9 greatgrandchildren. Denny was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2000 and passed away in June 2008. | |

Level 6 - Miss Quimby |
|
| Miss Quimby was a frail little lady who lived in a small home outside of Hubbard, Oregon. In the late 70's Erik Berkey, the founder of Thelma's Place, would mow her lawn and pick up her leaves for $10, and after all his work was done she would invite him in for lemonade and cookies. Miss Quimby suffered a stroke and was placed in a care home. Erik and his mother would visit her weekly and he never liked what he saw. That is when Erik decided he wanted to help seniors live in a better place. | |
